From the Director

The Palmer School is a private, non-profit educational facility of the Bernardsville United Methodist Church. The school has been in operation since September, 1982 and is licensed by the State of New Jersey, Division of Youth and Family Services.

The School is also one of the few child care institutions nationally accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs (a division of the NAEYC.) The school was reaccredited in July 2017 and our accreditation will run through October 2022.

This Website is designed to provide an initial introduction to the School, our program philosophy and general procedures. To find out more about how the Palmer School can address the needs of your child(ren) and family, please call or email us  to schedule an appointment for a visit.

Shannon Vincenti, Director

Program Philosophy

Our mission is to create social, intellectual, and spiritual foundations for children by nurturing the hopes and dreams of the whole child.

The children are given the opportunity to experience God’s love for them and for the world by exploring Bible Stories and holiday celebrations. They are encouraged to learn through active exploration of their child-centered environment.

These opportunities for learning assist the children in cultivating a positive self-concept, self-control, and self-reliance.

About Us

The Palmer School provides care and education for children focusing on the needs of the total child according to his or her developmental readiness. Therefore, all programs include activities in the areas of math, science, creative arts, movement, imaginative play, play with manipulative toys, pre-reading and language development.

The curriculum offers monthly unit themes such as Safety at Home and School and Community Helpers, and includes indoor and outdoor activities as well as time for free play, snack, rest and group interaction.

The School provides the children with nutritious morning and afternoon snacks. Lunches are provided by parents and may be brought in a lunch box or paper bag. Milk or juice is provided by the school at lunch and at snack times.

Hours of Operation:

7:30a.m. -  5:30 p.m.

Parent Participation

The Palmer School, in its commitment to meeting the needs of its families, encourages continuous dialogue between parents, the teaching staff, and the Director. We have an “open door” policy with all parents, though a security entrance system is used to prevent access by unauthorized visitors.

Parents are encouraged to visit and participate in special events with their children.

Here at the Palmer School we work to create an inclusive community for our students and their families. Having families from around the world allows us to create a global community and teach our students about different cultures. Every family is invited to join in at school events, birthdays, class trips, and more. In working to create such a community we have seen life long friendships form not only among students but also parents.

We also welcome members from outside the school to come and teach our students. Every year the dentist, doctor, and other community members come to visit the Palmer School. Classes also take adventure walks out into the community to explore, especially during our Community Helpers unit.
